Topic: How To Survive the Holidays During Your Fertility Journey

Cheryl Barry is a Registered Psychologist with over 14 years of counselling experience. Originally from Ontario, she completed her Bachelor of Arts Honours Psychology degree from the University of Western Ontario and moved west to complete her Master of Science degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Calgary. She has worked in a variety of roles and settings including: Alberta Health Services, Mount Royal University, the Calgary Counselling Centre, and Jewish Family Service. Cheryl also has a private practice, specializing in Infertility Counselling.

Cheryl and her husband navigated the seas of infertility for five years and completed three cycles of IVF prior to conceiving their miracle baby in 2013. While on their journey, Cheryl quickly learned that infertility is about so much more than not being able to get pregnant. Infertility is also about the loss of hopes and dreams, surrendering personal control, and facing so much uncertainty about the future. Throughout their journey, Cheryl and her husband experienced grief, fear, stress, anxiety, and disconnection. Relationships with friends, family, and colleagues were often challenged, making the journey at times, a lonely one. Overwhelmed by the crashing waves of infertility, they reached out for support and received so much care and compassion from the infertility community. This support gave them the strength to persevere.

Cheryl has now devoted her private practice to helping others navigate the seas of infertility. She provides specialized support, information, and resources for women, their spouses, and families struggling with fertility challenges. She assists with issues such as: Stress, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, grief and loss (chemical pregnancies, miscarriages, pregnancy reduction), intimacy issues, challenges related to donor insemination, oocyte/embryo donation, surrogacy, adoption & pre/post natal support. Cheryl develops and facilities fertility-related workshops and liasons with organizations such as: The Infertility Awareness Association of Canada, Conceivable, Generations of Hope, and the Infertility Support Group of Calgary.

Cheryl strives to cultivate compassion, inspire hope, and empower change for the infertility community.
