Want Your Best Year Yet? Up Your Game with These 3 Tips When Making New Goals for the New Year. By Paige Challoner, Personal Growth Counsellor.

Are you looking to have your best year yet?

Are you ready to make those New Year’s goals really work for you this year?

Are you looking for more ease and simplicity?

When making any type of goals there are a few things that are important to consider to not only ensure your success in reaching those goals, but doing so with more ease.

Now these tips are over and above setting S.M.A.R.T. goals. For those of you not familiar with them, a S.M.A.R.T. goal needs to be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time limited.  With these things in place for each goal, you will have more clarity in what it is you are striving for, while making them more achievable.  In addition to making your goals S.M.A.R.T., applying these 3 Tips will further motivate and keep you on track, even through those times where you are challenged and feel stuck.

  1. When you make your goals, sometimes you may just have to keep them to yourself. Why? Although we would like to think that everyone is on your team cheering for you, more often than not, they aren’t. There are those that will try to talk you out of it and others who will give you that smirk and tell you through their body language and insincere “positive” comments otherwise.  Not a great way to start off when you think you are going to fail before you even get out of the gates. Keeping goals to yourself or not fully sharing them will help you stay positive for you!  Better yet, surround yourself with more positive and uplifting people that sincerely have your back and will assist with pumping you with encouragement along the way.
  2. Try something new! If you are making the same goals year after year and year after year you get off track, lose interest and motivation, why do it all over again this year.  Instead of making that same goal approach it from a different perspective, or try something completely new that really lights you up and gets you excited.
  1. Make them fun! When you put the intention in to having more fun with everything you do, this will include your goals.  And why not?  When you add fun to things, not only do you feel better about taking the steps, but your motivation increases as you go through what is required to achieve them.  When you feel anything less than excited about doing something, ask “What would it take to have fun with this today?”  Be open to any possibility and watch for what shows up.

Try keeping each of these in mind when making those New Year’s goals and see the difference it can make throughout your achievements this year.
